2025 has been a bitch. I wish you understood how excited I am that we are entering the last month of the year. Around every corner stands a metaphorical Mike Tyson ready to punch me in the face and bite off my ear.
Every goddamn time though, I get back up. It ain’t easy, but I muster up that strength somehow. With yesterday being Thanksgiving, one of those motivating factors was thrown right into the limelight. Good ol’ gratitude. You’ve gotten me through some rough times, and again here in 2025.
Not to say that I was an ungrateful little bastard growing up. It was just that the point was driven home when I was nineteen. I lost my childhood home to a fire. An event like that will reshape your whole world perspective. Losing two decades in the matter of minutes. Going from the safety of a home to lay your head at night to having that basic need stripped away in the snap of your fingers.
It definitely makes you thankful for what you do have. And just like I tell my family, friends, and colleagues, focus on just that. Look at what you have. Focus on what the moment provides you. When we hone in on what we lack, we are always met with disappointment. We will never reach our expectations at that rate. Instead, using what we know and can control. That’s where the real power lies.
Don’t moan, groan, and complain about what you don’t have. Be grateful what you possess.
