Go. Go. Go. That’s been my motto for 2025. Seldom do I get a moment to myself. Since the start of the year, it feels like every waking moment is dedicated to helping everyone else. Overall, I’m fine with that. I love helping other people. However, it comes with a cost.
As a result, I’ve had to be more mindful of what little time I do have. This includes building in short breaks throughout my day.
Now, when I say time to myself, I mean time intervals 60 seconds or less. You’d be absolutely shocked by how much your mind can accomplish in that short amount of time. Sometimes, I use the break to shift my mentality in preparation for the next task. Other times, I utilize it as decompression time by taking a bathroom break or getting a drink of water. More often than not, my inner dialogue asserts itself, providing a momentary boost of motivation.
These small breaks play a pivotal part in staying present. It breaks up the day into smaller pieces. This way, I don’t get overwhelmed and can take on the day one moment at a time. It’s a nice way to give yourself peace of mind.
I’d also say to not just use the time to distract yourself. Be intentional with it. It’ll help you feel more in control and focused. You manage the pace and how much every to want to dedicate to any given moment. The break also serves as a time to confront situations in real-time. That way, they don’t compound on one another. It’s a mindset that has been a serious game changer. Something as simple as remembering to take a moment and breathe.
