The brain can be a tricky little bugger. Sometimes it seems like our mind has a mind of its own.

Let’s face it though. For all of us, the thing that helps us control ourselves can also feel like it takes over control. In those moments, we feel overwhelmed, helpless, and confused.
Interestingly enough, we can utilize our brain to show itself down too. So, when your brain starts to run rampant with rumination, it is that much more important to focus on what you have under your control -our response to it.
One trick I teach my clients and taught myself was to build “brain breaks” into a schedule. It helps to literally make it part of your daily routine. I recommend seeing aside a few minutes a couple of times a day to quite literally slow yourself down. In that time, it helps to organize your thoughts and give yourself an honest self-assessment. Check in on yourself, and develop a plan/steps to get you to the next “brain break.”
You’d be surprised but how much of an impact taking a minute or two to yourself can have on the day’s trajectory. That time could save you a day’s worth of headaches.
